Services Offered

  • This service includes 6-hours of Behind-The-Wheel Driver Education provided by a professional staff of State Approved Driving Instructors. Anyone under the age of 18 is required to complete these 6-hours before moving forward with a Provisional License. Check the SMDS website for more details about the process.

  • This service ensures students (15 to 17) will complete their 6-hours of Behind-The-Wheel Lessons in expedited fashion, no later than 3 weeks of requesting to Schedule Lessons. SMDS will make time to fit you in to the best of our ability, possibly during off-peak times. (We guarantee completion of BTW Lessons within 4 months, standard time is within 2 months)

  • This service includes 2-hours of ‘Driving after Dark’ with a trained professional at your side, (This service is an add-on to each 2-hour BTW Lesson you purchase) These lessons are designed to prepare inexperienced drivers how to manage the darkness of the night, glare from headlights, and other disorienting factors. Students are also required to drive at least 15 hours at night (after dark) under adult supervision before earning a Provisional License to drive per MN Law. This is extra practice with Professional Supervision but cannot count toward the 15 hours.

  • This service has a premium markup to experience driving in the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E. (This service is an add-on to each 2-hour BTW Lesson you purchase) This vehicle is stacked with advanced driving technology and has modes that allow it to handle like a traditional gas powered vehicle. EVs are projected to become more and more prevalent by the year, why not learn to drive one now. If you’ve never driven an EV, this service will put a smile on your face. (This service is an add-on to each 2-hour BTW Lesson you purchase)

  • This service includes 2-Hours of Behind-The-Wheel Instruction provided by a professional staff of State Approved Driving Instructors. This option is for adults, students, or anyone 18+ looking for some extra hours of Behind-The-Wheel with a trained professional. This is not part of the State of MN required 6-hours of driving instruction.

  • This service includes 1-Hour of Behind-The-Wheel Instruction provided by a professional staff of State Approved Driving Instructors. This option is for adults, students, or anyone 18+ looking for some extra hours of Behind-The-Wheel with a trained professional. This is not part of the State of MN required 6-hours of driving instruction.

How to Sign Up or Purchase Services

You can browse the services provided by SMDS on this page but generally cannot sign up (purchase) until students are Enrolled. SMDS needs more information to help you move this process forward.  This applies to the majority of student drivers but if you are an adult or someone looking for extra driving, maybe extra Behind-The-Wheel practice with a professional Driving Instructor to keep you safe, Contact SMDS directly for a 1 or 2-hour lesson or if you have other questions about this process.

If you need a payment plan consisting of two payments; pay $200 now to Enroll with SMDS and get an E-Card (Blue Card) which allows you to take the Permit Test, then $225 when finishing Behind-The-Wheel, Contact SMDS directly and we can send you an invoice.

  • Purchase a Blue Card (E-Card)

    Buying a Blue Card indicates you want to take the Knowledge Test and earn a Permit to drive. You must Enroll with SMDS, provide a Classroom Completion Letter, and make a payment before taking the Test.

  • Schedule Driving Lessons

    Before requesting to Schedule Behind-The-Wheel Lessons you must; have passed the Knowledge Test, have possession of your Instruction Permit (paper OK), and have 3+ hours of supervised driving experience.
