This page is for students ages 15 to 17 who have completed 30 hours of Classroom Driver Education and are ready to move forward to take the Permit Test. To Enroll with SMDS and receive an E-Card, you must complete the following:

Provide your Classroom Completion Letter
Purchase 6-hours of Behind-The-Wheel (you will be directed to this page after clicking Enroll Now)
All 3 of these things must be completed BEFORE getting an E-Card, which is required to take the Permit Test. After you pass the Permit Test and have a couple hours of supervised driving, circle back to the SMDS website to Schedule Behind-The-Wheel Lessons.
What happens after enrollment? SMDS will process your information to the State DMV System and you will receive an email confirmation from the state of Minnesota within 2 to 3 business days (sometimes within a few hours) - that email is is your E-Card. It is very important for you to confirm the information in your E-Card is correct; your full legal name must be correct and match both your Primary and Secondary Forms of ID. If you notice errors, please notify SMDS and we will make corrections. Failure to confirm the accuracy of this information may lead to unnecessary stress and delays on testing day.
