Scheduling
Scheduling Details
South Metro Driving School is extremely flexible when it comes to scheduling and ultimately it is our goal to complete 6 hours of Behind-The-Wheel Lessons within 1 to 2 months of when a student indicates they would like to schedule lessons, but possibly up to 4 months. Please consider these factors;
Students get their Classroom Completion Letters and pass the Knowledge Test at different rates, which creates demand at different times of the year. Just like the school calendar or sports schedules keep families seasonally busy. We do our best to accommodate your needs to the best of our ability. If you only want to drive during the summer, on weekends, when your football season is over, in the mornings, or only on the weekends - we’ll try to make that happen. We could theoretically drive 365 days a year if necessary, although we do not.
Students must have their permit for a minimum of 6 months before taking the Road Test for a Provisional License. During those 6 months students must complete their 6 hours of Behind-The-Wheel lessons with a Driving Instructor. This means we have at least 6 months (and in most cases up to a year) to get those 6 hours of behind the wheel lessons in - that’s a lot of time.
Students can request a specific Driving Instructor and we will try to honor this request depending on the instructor’s schedule. All of our instructors use similar methods of instruction and are capable of helping any driver to learn to navigate the roads safely.
Students generally should have at least 2 to 3 hours of supervised driving experience before scheduling behind the wheel lessons. With this approach students can learn vehicle controls and basic driving tasks under adult supervision. This also means SMDS instructors spend less time on the basics and more time exploring the roadways with students and covering complex driving situations. Or if a parent/student is experiencing anxiety and prefers to drive with an instructor for their first time behind the wheel, that works for us too.
Students will generally drive all 6 hours with the same instructor in a relatively short time-frame, possibly 3 consecutive days or over a couple weeks. This helps to develop rapport with students and reinforce topics covered during lessons which is more effective within a shorter period of time.
To start driving and schedule Behind-The-Wheel Lessons a student must;
Have taken and passed the Knowledge Test
Have received their Instruction Permit to drive (paper copy is OK)
Have 3+ hours of driving experience under adult supervision. Schedule Now with South Metro Driving School when you are ready to start lessons based on the information above.
SMDS offers daytime (during school) lessons but please make sure you’ve got your school work under control before requesting these time slots.
