Minnesota requires 30-Hours of classroom instruction before a teen can earn an Instructional Driving Permit. South Metro Driving School has partnered with Pass Drivers Ed to provide this pathway with an online curriculum that is self-paced and taught with real world situational driving.

WHAT THE COURSE COVERS

The rules of the road, becoming an informed driver, and safety awareness.

The classroom hours are where the foundation gets built. Signs, signals, right-of-way, sharing the road, and the decisions good drivers make without thinking. We teach it plainly, so it sticks and truly prepares students for the driving experience.

Signs, Signals, Markings

What every sign, light, and roadway marking actually mean and how to use them to navigate roadways safely.

Sharing the road

Pedestrians, cyclists, school buses, semis. How to read what other road users are about to do.

Minnesota Laws

Permit rules, the graduated licensing system, and what the state actually requires at each step.

Right-Of-Way

Who goes first at the four-way, the roundabout, the flashing yellow light, or the circle green.

Risk & Conditions

Speed, following distance, weather, and the choices that keep small mistakes from becoming big ones.

The Four steps from sign-up to permit-ready.

1. Enroll online

Sign up through the registration link. You’ll create an account and get immediate access to the course.

2. Work through it at your own pace

The 30 hours are online and self-paced. Log in and out where ever and when ever you want; at the kitchen table, during a long car ride, and on the weekends. (3 hours max per day)

3. Finish the classroom requirement

Once you complete the curriculum you will receive a Classroom Completion Letter. This is confirmation you have satisfied the Minnesota Driver Education classroom requirement to earn a permit.

4.Get Behind-The-Wheel
