Enroll Now with South Metro Driving School

This page is for students ages 15 to 17 who have completed 30 hours of Classroom Driver Education and are ready to move forward to take the Permit Test. Enrolling with a Driving School to complete 6-Hours of Behind-The-Wheel is required by MN State Law for drivers under age 18. To Enroll with SMDS and receive an E-Card, you must:

1. Complete 30-hours of Classroom Driver Education; then provide SMDS with your Completion Letter

2. Purchase 6-hours of Behind-The-Wheel

3. Click Enroll Now (or the button below)

All 3 of these things must be completed BEFORE getting an E-Card.  After you pass the Permit Test and have a couple hours of supervised driving, circle back to the SMDS website to Schedule Lessons.

What happens after enrollment? SMDS will process your information to the State DMV System and you will receive an email confirmation from the state of Minnesota within a day or two - that email is is your E-Card. (SMDS tries to process Enrollments nightly) It is very important for you to confirm the information on your E-Card is correct; your full legal name must be correct and match both your Primary and Secondary Forms of ID. If you notice errors, please notify SMDS and we will make corrections. Failure to confirm the accuracy of this information may lead to unnecessary stress and delays on testing day.
